Postpartum consultation attendance at the maternity ward in Sokoura, Cte dIvoire

This study investigates why postpartum women cannot or will not receive consultations at the maternity ward in Sokoura, Côte d’Ivoire. It aims to present sociocultural, economic, infrastructural and organisational factors limiting new mothers’ access care suggest ways encourage them seek out such care. A qualitative approach was adopted data collected from individual interviews with mothers midwives. The results have elucidated hindering Sokoura broader sociological context which they need be assessed. relevant are deficient knowledge about post-partum period, professional obligations, their spouses’ limited financial means, distance of ward, unfavourable transport conditions, tensions between midwives, inadequate organisation management consultation services ward. These obstacles can broadly categorised as insufficient education, scarce social support environmental medical conditions. To remedy these issues, it is necessary foster community action targeting spouses, develop midwives’ cross-cultural skills, notably capacity for anthropological observation, involve public authorities changes.   Key words: Postpartum women, accessibility, consultations, obstacles, change, maternal neonatal health.
